About the Artist

My excitement about the visual world began as a child growing up in the rolling hills and streams of northwestern New Jersey. I constantly drew what was around me; horses in the field, landscapes, my friends, my family. Later, as a teen I was drawn to travel and backpacked throughout Europe. There I was exposed to new cultures and artists like Cezanne, Matisse, Avery and Picasso for the first time.  Upon returning home, I attended the Museum Art School in Portland, Oregon for one year and transferred to Virginia Commonwealth University where I earned a BFA in Ceramics/Textiles.  For three years I ran a functional pottery business and later worked for a handmade tile company where I met my future husband who is a ceramic artist. We made North Carolina our home and raised two wonderful daughters. During that time, I worked as an illustrator, and later returned to college and earned an MLS. I served as an academic librarian until my retirement in 2019.

Over the past few years, I have had the opportunity to take workshops from a variety of wonderful and talented artists. I explore the figure, still life, and the landscape in ways and mediums that continue to develop and shift: moving from direct observation to a more intuitive and abstracted interpretation. I enjoy working in many mediums, such as oils, gouache, collage and cardboard. The process of working intuitively with simple strong shapes and vibrant colors inspires me.
